Earth Day!
The morning began with an all school assembly (3 years old to 8th grade). Each class was asked to bring their classroom trash can.
Students were educated by Crystal Griffis of Republic Services and Paul Streets of the City of Midwest City as to what is recyclable. Items were pulled from the classroom trash cans and students cheered whether is was waste or recyclable.
Griffis, provided this amazing statistic to the students, “An African Male Elephant weighs 7.5 tons. Midwest City recycled 2,831.40 tons year to date. So that would be 378 elephants! They saved 48,143 trees!
Then the carts were rolled outside the student body cheered on the trucks as the lifted the bins to be emptied. Drivers of each truck began honking their horns to recognizable tunes which sent the little ones into cheer.
