The Accelerated Reader Program (otherwise known as "AR" at St. Philip Neri School) is a program to promote "pleasure reading" for the students. It does not take the place of classroom reading and/or assigned reading homework.
Students at all levels of reading are encouraged to take part in the program. Students should not be "locked" into reading books on their own "reading levels" as many "picture books" were and are written for varying age levels (There are exceptions to the previous statement, e.g.: Beginning Reader books read by older students).
Students' Point Reports are printed and given to the classroom teacher on Fridays or the last day of the school week if shortened.
More in-depth information regarding Accelerated Reader is available at Rennaissance Learning's website: RenLearn.com.
